Gameplay
How do I win a FantasySpin contest?
At the end of the day, winning FantasySpin contests is all about which teams/lineups score the most fantasy points.
Why was a player who scored zero fantasy points awarded their pre-game projection as their final score?
In certain contests, we apply special rules for players who don’t play or don’t score any fantasy points during the game. This is designed to make managing lineups and rosters easier for all FantasySpin players:
- For MLB, NHL, and NBA: If a player is marked as DNP (Did Not Play), their pre-game fantasy projection will be added to their final score, instead of receiving a zero. This helps account for unexpected absences due to things like late scratches or rest days.
- For NFL and NCAAF: If a player doesn’t score any fantasy points during the contest, they will be marked as DNS (Did Not Score). In this case, their pre-game projection will also be added to their final score, ensuring that lineup selections are still rewarded in scenarios where a player may not have been able to contribute.
What are spins?
Spins are how you generate new players when you’re spinning your lineup! Make sure you use your spins wisely and pay attention to how many you have left.
What are locks?
Locks are used to “lock” your favorite players into your lineup. If you lock a player and spin, that player will remain in your lineup.
How do I see if I won?
Head to the “lineups” section on the bottom navigation. From there, tap “settled lineups” and any contests you won cash in will have a green outline.
What’s the difference between guaranteed and non-guaranteed contests?
Non-guaranteed contests require a minimum number of entries to be met in order for the contest to run. Example: FantasySpin runs a 1,000 entry contest with a minimum fill rate of 800 entries. In this scenario, if over 800 entries are made, the contest will run; whereas if fewer than 800 entries are made, the contest will be void and all entry fees returned. Guaranteed contests have no minimum fill rate. You will be able to see whether a contest is guaranteed or non-guaranteed in the contest info section.
Why do some players have a star icon next to their name?
Players with a star icon are identified as "Highly-Experienced Players" on FantasySpin, meaning they have entered over 1,000 contests or won more than three DFS contest prizes valued at $1,000 or more.
Taxes
Do I need to pay taxes on my FantasySpin winnings?
The Internal Revenue Service requires a completed 1099-MISC form from Members who accumulate $600 or more in net winnings (NOT total payouts) for the calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31). This amount is taxed as “Other Income”. Members who meet or exceed the $600 threshold will receive a 1099-MISC form from FantasySpin.
How will I receive the 1099-MISC form?
We will send you this form to the email we have on file. If we do not have all your necessary information on file (e.g. your current address or Social Security Number), we will request that information from you and then send it via email.
What if I exceeded $600 in net winnings, but I didn’t withdraw any funds?
Even if you didn’t withdraw your winnings, you will still be sent a 1099-MISC form to complete with the winnings classified as “Other Income”.
Does FantasySpin have any resources to provide tax support or advice?
No, FantasySpin does not provide tax support. While we aim to give as much helpful information as possible, none of our online resources are intended to be used as official tax advice.
